NEW BRITAIN -- Five local youths are accused of trying to turn an abandoned supermarket building into their personal skateboard park.

The young men were arrested Monday night after a security alarm was activated at the former Shaw's supermarket at 1045 West Main St., police Sgt. Gregory Wright said.

When police arrived about 8:50 p.m., they found the young men riding their skateboards in the aisles and over a makeshift ramp they had set up, Wright said.

The suspects had broken into the building after noticing that a back door was unlocked, Wright said. When they entered, the security alarm was triggered, he said.

Two of the five suspects, who are all facing charges of criminal mischief and criminal trespassing, are under the age of 16 and were not identified. The other three suspects are: Peter Wcislo, 18; Reynaldo Molina, 20; and Carlos Ramos, 20.

Wright said the men caused an undetermined amount of damage to the floor of the supermarket, which has been empty for about four months.
