Vertigo Skatepark - Brookfield, CT
VertigoRoomPano01a: The Big Room at Vertigo
When the word comes out that there's a new skatepark within an hour of home, its time to get a boner! Well, not a boner, but at least get a little excited. The photos and video on the net made this new park look inviting, but when I skated the place, it wasn't all that. Vertigo is a new indoor skatepark in Brookfield, CT, just a bit south of where Axis Boardsports was. To sum it up, everything could have been better. The street setup in the first room looks good, I guess, but I don't give a shit about street skating in an indoor skatepark. The kid mini is totally suck-infested, as there is no transition and also no flat, making for a boredom inducing V ramp. The five foot mini again looked good on the innerneck, but in person it has too little flat and therefore it skates really really quick wall to wall - not my style. The big room has the most variety, and it is what saves this park from being a total loss in my book. The bowl cornered setup is pretty fun, you just have to deal with losing the speed from all the metal kickplates. The ditch section rides like a true ditch, and it appears that some sort of oververt capsule is going into the end of it. Some of the construction techniques at this park aren't quite what I would call "Team Pain" quality, but it is a decent effort nonetheless. With all of this said, this skatepark is on my way home from work, so I will probably hit it up again, even though it is really expensive ($15-$20 for your first time, then $10 weekday seshs or $15 weekend seshs).
