Maple Shade, NJ, FDR & Woodward Skateparks Over The Weekend
The Hybrid Bowl at Maple Shade, NJ
Hit up FDR Skatepark on Saturday, a bit windy and crowded as usual but fun as hell (as usual!)...the new bowl I have personally dubbed the "Dizzy Pit" for reasons you can probably figure out..and of course the best part about heading to FDR is all the stupid funny new graf thrown up...
The Dizzy Pit @ FDR Skatepark
Checked out the Wally Holliday park at Maple Shade, NJ on Sunday morn...cold with flurries and it was supposed to be Bikes Only but the truth is most skaters and BMXers can get along well enough to not need BS session rules like that...As for the park, it was fun and worth the visit, but of course I've got a few snotty design comments. The big bowl is pretty fast and flows well, but the roll-in lump bump narrows the intersection of the 3 corners down to only a few lines through it...The smaller bowl looked fun at first, but I have this new pet peeve about "hybrid" bowls - bowls with "street" elements thrown into them. I think they suck and are an example of poorly conceived design. The flow of the bowl is severely compromised and you find yourself zooming around only to run into a flat bank with a curb on top and, well, goodbye speed and flow! I think it should be one or the other, either a sick flowing bowl or a street course, but forget mixing the two...

The "Rock-Fakie-Tail-Tap" park AKA Woodward Skatepark
I soon burned out on the Maple Shade park and headed to warmer terrain at the indoor Woodward park...and all I have to say about that place is too many little micro-groms are hooked on the "rock-fakie-tail-tap" runs and need to learn some damn tricks!!!
