MOUNTAIN CREEK, NJ
Kickers!
February 6, 2005: New this year at Mountain Creek is the Park Pass. For $5, it gets you access to the Main Park at Vernon Peak, from the top of the Cabriolet Gondola. I tried to pay for mine with a bag of loose change (no pennies), but the dude in the shed wouldn't take it, stating that he would have to "count it" at the end of the day. I didn't buy his excuse, but I guess I felt a little like a scumbag vagrant for trying to pay with change. I mean who pays with change? A bum like me, that's who. I went down to the snowboard shop and trade in my ziploc baggie of change for a five dollar bill. On the way up, I was friggin with my highback screws and it fell out of my fingers and through the grated floor of the Cabriolet Gondola. Helpful hint: Work on your gear somewhere else. I got my park pass, then went back to the repair shop to find a piece for my highback, which they did not have, so I just rode with a flapping highback for the rest of the day.

These photos were taken on a Monday, so the crowds were light. However, on a busy weekend, I can totally see where the Park Pass earns its $5 price tag. It is kind of nice for once to not have to worry about some landing on some oblivious skier in a purple unisuit working out his Stem Christies on the nice corduroy that also happens to be the backside of the biggest jump on the hill, or some beginner in a Starter jacket doing the same thing, but falling and lying there for you to land on him. Mountain Creek's just-as-crowded neighbors in the Catskills should consider a policy like this. Two other Intrawest resorts, Whistler and Stratton, have similar park policies. On the crowded East Coast, this makes total sense. Enough out of my piehole, now you may look at the pictures. Mountain Creek's park is in multiple sections all over the hill. Pick up a trail map for all that jazz...

This is a crazy summertime waterslide, but at the rate Mountain Creek is going, this should be sitting in the middle of the park in a few seasons!!!
