5th, 2005: Blue Hills is tiny (two trails), old as
dirt, and just thirty minutes from downtown Boston (strain your
eyes in the pano pic for the skycrapers). I went here for a boardercross
race, and honestly, I wasn't expecting much. Registration wasn't
until 10, inspection didn't open until almost 1PM, and the race
would not start until 2 PM, which is crazy late and very abnormal
for a race. After taking about fifty high speed runs down the one
trail out of two that was open (the course being on the second),
and 50 four minute lift rides up the ancient double, I was beginning
to get bored. Finally the course opened, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The course was long and pretty fast, with multiple passing zones.
What is most ironic is that they no longer have a full time park
at Blue Hills because of injuries and insurance - the tables and
berms in the race course were dozed immediately afterwards! Ah hell,
live life vicariously: watch the video below and take a run down
the course! |
