Burton
Snowboards Headquarters - Burlington, VT |
|
|
If
you give even the slightest crap about the history and innovations made
in snowboarding-or getting a deal on some high quality threads - then
you need to make a roadtrip to Burlington, Vermont to the Burton Snowboards
HQ. Start with the Board Walls. Wood history right before your eyes. Look
but don't touch, punk! I started somewhere around the tall board in the
center of the above picture (AKA 1988) You too can play "I had this
one!" |
|
There's
a plush waiting area if you get tired. Usually The Weather Channel is
on the TV, but on the fateful day I was there, instead it was "Shock
& Awe" |
|
The Factory Store:
Boards, boots, bindings, bags, socks, underwear-they have just about everything
they make for the year here. Go in the fall if you're loaded, and want
the very best selection of all the brand new shit. If you're not-so loaded,
go in the spring when they slash prices big time, including a final weekend
sale where everything must go. While your local shop will have just one
jacket left in a hideous orange XS, the Burton Factory Store will have
twenty of them! HaHaHa! In their defense, they'll also have better looking
duds and hardgear en masse, hard to find stuff like replacement snowdeck
snowboards and the Burton/Apple AMP jacket with the iPod remote built
into the sleeve, and my favorite Burton item- the travel bags!
There are also no
less than 867 dogs wandering around the place: You'd think the Bumpus
clan lived next door! They are all very mellow - it's a company policy
allowing employees to bring their pooch to work. |
|
The
Prototype Shop: Beware! Weird, strange, & sick stuff goes on in here... |
|
The
Burton HQ's skatepark setup: Not sure about outsiders skating here, so
call ahead. It's not all that great, but it is something for the employees.
damn well better than a treadmill. I like how the street stuff is blended
in with the sporty corporate scenery. |

old
double chairs in the parking lot - very cool |

Take
I-89 to I-189 west to the end (VT 7) Go north (right) on 7. After Sherburne
Plaza or Commons or something (its a shopping center that hosts the last
Servy Merchandise on Earth I think) on your left, turn left at that light
onto Home Ave. Follow Home Ave down the hill, through the first stop sign,
and over the RR tracks. Turn left onto Industrial Ave., and the Burton
HQ is the first complex on the left. Brah. |
