this is perhaps
the most offensive skatepark of all time, and it also happens to be the
closest park to my house in the Hudson Valley of NY. Where do I begin?
How about the prison fence? No there is nothing wrong with your eyes -
indeed this fence is prepared for barbed wire all along the top. And that
rolling gate-I bet a klaxon buzzes loudly whenever it opens, just like
at the actual prison down the road. I bet this fence cost just as much
IF NOT MORE than the ramps - which are boring-Nothing but your basic quarterpipes
and low rail fun pyramid crapola.
Are you sold? Ready
to move to East Fishkill, NY right away? If you want to skate this park,
you'd better- read the rules below: you have to be a resident of East
Fishkill just to skate it! Thats rule number one! I live ONE town away,
and I can't officially skate this park - even if I paid my expensive annual
"membership dues and fees" for the lame insurance plan that
the town got scammed on. I wouldn't want to skate the boring ramps anyways
- I'll stick to the streets until a fair skatepark is built (I'm working
on it - click here for more information
about the Dutchess County Skatepark Initiative, a campaign to build a
free, public, quality concrete skatepark for everyone and anyone to use!)
Here's the worst part
- the roller hockey rink directly behind this park is free to use by any
person, regardless of where they live, as is the rest of the fields, courts,
and playgrounds in this town's park. Talk about discrimination. This park
is yet another example of everything a municipality could do WRONG with
a skatepark project, from ripping off and treating children like hardened
criminals to flat out discrimination and really naive design selection.
I hate all of this even more because I moved here from Denver, where you
can't throw a rock in any direction without hitting a free concrete park! |
