| NOTICE: Lansdowne
is currently free of pad nannies and waivers once again as of Summer 2003,
but the whole park area is undergoing a renovation, which means a new street
area - good! - and plans for a real fence and official pads and waiver lockdown
(at least another attempt at it!) - bad! - More new pics soon... |
| Living skateboard
history just south of Baltimore. Built sometime in the seventies, it has
drawn skaters from all over the east coast for twenty years. According to
the boys at Charm City Skatepark, some kid broke his arm there and "couldn't
get out" (bullshit), and so after twenty years of hassle-free skating,
the city came along, threw up a fence, posted a guard at the door, printed
up some waivers, and instituted lame hours and full pads. Awful. However,
there is hope. I showed up one afternoon after it had rained, and the place
was closed and empty. There were a few puddles and some mud, but that didn't
stop me. The "fence", which could be blown over by a stiff wind,
already had a door cut into it, so access was easy. The snake run flows
down into a basin with hips and a few blobs, and then continues down even
further into another basin.Lansdowne has a surprisingly smooth surface for
twenty year old concrete. They sure knew how to build 'em back then! I skated
for a half hour, and nobody cared. The neighbors in the row houses around
the park probably wouldn't be bothered to get up off the couch from Judge
Judy to call the cops anyways |

| DIRECTIONS:
Take exit 9 off of I-695, the Hollins Ferry Rd exit. Head east on
that road towards Lansdowne up the hill. At the top of the hill,
turn right onto Bero Rd. After the first street on the left(Freeway
St.), look for an asphalt path about three feet wide on your left
between the houses. Walk down that path, and you will see the park.
If you get lost, just ask any kid in the area-they'll know for sure
where it is. |
