KICKASS

Andover,

| This
park is fun, but it's not open very often and is highly supervised. As
a non-resident it costs five dollars to enter and this summer (2003) the
park did not
even open until almost June 14th. If you are under 18 you need a waiver
signed to skate. They do have great ramps with both metal and masonite
cover. The majority of the ramps were made by Zero
Gravity in Vermont and have been pretty well kept up. I have been
skating there on and off (mostly off) for at least three years and the
ramps are always in good condition. My favorite parts of the park are
the
elbow 1/4 bowl, the mini ramp (transitions that even a chump like me can
get going on from the flat bottom) and the huge take off ramp. Just cruising
down that thing
at full speed and then hitting the flat asphalt and cruising towards the
pyramid is pretty fun. I imagine a really good skater could get some serious
height over that thing. I've seen guys kickflip it flatground height and
I imagine someone like Andrew Reynolds could get four or five feet over
it. Helmets are enforced and the few hours they are open (12-7 everyday
but Monday) and the vert ramp (just added end of last summer) is big enough
to merit at least knee pads. This park is the cheap local alternative
to Woodward for me in the summer. There are better parks both free and
pay within driving distance, but don't overlook this park's potential.
The times I have been there it has never been that packed and sometimes
on the really hot days I had the place virtually to myself. |

| DIRECTIONS:
Take I-93 North to exit 43A (Andover Rte 113). Go right at the
end of the exit ramp and go to the second set of lights. Make a right onto
Shawsheen St. - I don't believe this street is marked so make sure to take
the right at the second set of lights. There is a school on your right hand
side within a half mile. Go into the parking lot of this school and in the
rear you will see a series of basketball, tennis courts and the skatepark.
