KICKASS
SKATEPARK BUILDERS |

|
| Trinidad,
Colorado...sex change capital of the world, I guess...I wasn't there for
that, though! Just get your ass here already!!! This Grindline
park is unbelievably fun, probably the most fun I have ever had at a skatepark.
The whole place is 100% flow (well, 99% flow - there is a dead end on the
platform at the deep end after the kicker jump, but it isn't worth complaining
about because the rest of the park is amazing!) |
|
|
| |
This
park was paid for almost entirely by Colorado State Lottery funds! There
was to be a street area in the top section, but Grindline got the go-ahead
to build whatever they wanted, so instead they built the entire park into
this massive concrete toboggan run! There are all sorts of different transitions,
corners, pump bumps, spines, hips, transfers - there is an infinite amount
of lines at this park. You can start at the top, carve your way down to
the bottom, then pump your way back to the top (a couple of those runs
and you learn the true meaning of the word fatigue!) |

| I asked
a little kid there what he thought of the park, and he said it was OK. Just
OK? I wanted to smack him! He said he liked street better (I saw that one
coming), and he wished that they had built more street stuff. I told him
that he can find street stuff to skate anywhere, but this type of tranny
doesn't just appear on a street corner. The whole concept of a "street"
area at a park is futile anyway. The little kid didn't care, and so I shut
up and skated off. Street skating is rad, but kids today put too much emphasis
on what they see in the videos and magazines. They need to just skate everything
in front of them. Enough old-man babbling out of me. Trinidad is on the
Colorado/New Mexico border. I-25 runs through the town, and its halfway
(3 between Denver, CO or Santa Fe, NM (three hours north or south). Las
Animas County is one of the cheapest places to live in Colorado (because
it's one of the poorest) - you could retire here as easily as you could
in Florida, and now there's actually a reason to!! |

| DIRECTIONS:
Look up in the sky - its up there in heaven! Take I-25 to Exit 13 I think.
You want the exit for Main Street. Once off the highway, head east towards
the Sonic Drive in Burger Hole, and bang a right immediately after Sonic
on to I believe Santa Fe Trail. Whatever its called, just pull the hairpin
to the right after Sonic and go up that hill. After about a quarter mile,
make a left onto Jefferson I believe (look for signs for the Rec Center
- that's the street you want!) Follow it down, then bear right at the fork
in the road (onto Beshoar Rd maybe?) Follow that up and the park is on your
right. Big gray thing can't miss it. |
