The Clairemont YMCA
Skatepark has every thing you need for your session. The size
is a whopping 53,000 square feet and offers a 13' tall vert ramp, a big
assed wooden street section and a burly combi-pool!
I stayed in the combi-pool area, never touching the street area, but from
what I could tell, the street area had plenty of flow and was well constructed.
The combi-pool ranges in depth from 7' to 10' deep with vert in both ends.
Full pool coping and tile are installed for your grinding pleasure.
I found the pool very challenging since it was rather slick.
While I was there, several pros and ex-pros were in a heated session.
I didn't get many runs in. I should have visited on a
much quieter day... would have had time to figure that beast out! Andy
Macdonald, who I hear is always at the Y, was destroying the pool.
I guess he prefers concrete to that Skatewave
crap he is endorsing after all!
This is what Andy Macdonald has to say about the new Krause Family Skate
Park (this YMCA park): "I helped design the new Clairemont Skate
park to be the best all-around park in the nation. The street course offers
something for every level of skater, and with the vert ramp and cement
bowl, every aspect of riding is represented. This new skate park has something
for everyone, just like the YMCA. Welcome, and enjoy!"
If you visit and Andy is there, be sure to ask him why he is not skating
one of the Skatewave
parks that he endorses. This is a pay to play place, visitors must
pay $10.00 per session. Full pads, waivers, etc are a must.
